Mosquito Management Services.

They're not just a treatment option.
They're a business opportunity.

A Market Demand for Mosquito Control Treatment.

Mosquitoes. They're not just a nuisance anymore. They're a public health threat. And increased public awareness of mosquito-transmitted diseases has created a demand for mosquito control treatment plans all across the U.S. In fact, Americans in high-mosquito areas are worried about the transmission of the West Nile Virus, according to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health. And for good reason. The Centers for Disease Control reported that in 2003, there were
9,862 human cases involving the West Nile Virus in the U.S. reported to the CDC. And cases have already been reported in 2004.

A Market Opportunity to Offer Mosquito Management Services

As a licensed and trained Pest Management Professional, you may want to offer mosquito management services in addition to the traditional pest control services you currently offer your customers.

Here is some information about mosquito management.

Common Mosquito Control Offerings

Integrated Mosquito Management

This comprehensive treatment option is suited for residential and commercial applications. It requires all the tools and services available to reduce mosquito populations for the entire season. The customer pays a monthly or contract service fee. You provide monitoring and management services that involve several steps:

Scouting

The first step is to find and eliminate sources that collect water and provide
breeding areas for mosquitoes, such as:

  • old tires
  • clogged gutters
  • trash in yard
  • areas where puddles form

Control of immature mosquitoes

This step involves using BT's (biologicals) or IGR's to treat sources of stagnant water, such as:

  • ponds
  • birdbaths
  • water features

Control of adult mosquitoes

This step requires treatment with an adulticide to areas around the home and recreational areas such as:

  • perimeter of home
  • foliage around the property up to 20 feet high
  • decks, around pools and patios where people spend time

Barrier Treatments

Barrier treatments involve controlling mosquitoes by targeting the adult. Monthly treatments are applied during the adult flying season using mist blowers of 50-300 micron particles. Treatment area is 30-50 feet wide and up to 20 feet high and includes large areas such as:

  • campgrounds
  • neighborhoods
  • parks
  • animal shelters (when animals are not present)
  • outdoor malls

Opportunity Treatments

The objective of this treatment option is to reduce mosquitoes during an outdoor event for a limited period of time. Treatments target the resting adult mosquito and are applied to foliage and other surfaces within the area to be protected using power sprayers or mist blowers of 50-300 micron particles.

Treat the area 1-3 days prior to events, such as:

  • weddings
  • graduation parties
  • picnics
  • carnivals

Make Tastar Professional insecticide part of your treatment plan

Whether you decide to offer integrated mosquito management services, barrier or opportunity treatments, Talstar Professional provides proven, long-lasting control of resting adult mosquitoes. And, since Talstar Professional is an insecticide and true miticide, it effectively controls 75 other pests as well.

Talstar Professional is highly effective where you need it; around perimeters and ornamentals; for residential, commercial and recreational uses. Plus it has a long half-life in sunlight and no visible residue, odor, or phytotoxic effects.

For effective barrier treatment, Talstar Professional takes care of all your adulticide needs.
1) Simply treat any surface area that a mosquito would rest on, such as:

  • shade trees
  • tall grass
  • shaded areas on and around buildings where mosquitoes congregate
  • flower beds
  • home exteriors
  • shrubs
  • fences

2) Apply Talstar Professional with a hand or power sprayer.

3) Use 0.25-1.0 ounce of Talstar Professional to treat 1000 square feet.
